Deep Roots, Strong Rise

Hòu jī bó fā is written 厚积薄发. 厚积 speaks of building a deep reserve over time; 薄发 suggests expressing or releasing it with measure. Together, the phrase brings long preparation and a fitting moment for action into view.

“Deep Roots, Strong Rise” is an interpretive English title, not a word-for-word translation. It conveys the strength that can grow from patient preparation without promising success or an inevitable breakthrough.

Carried on the body, the work can be a reminder that quiet preparation and the decision to act both have their place.

The work reads from top to bottom: 厚 → 积 → 薄 → 发. Here 薄 is pronounced bó. These are the simplified characters in the artwork; preserve their order and upright, readable direction. Do not mirror the design or substitute the traditional forms 厚積薄發.
