Terms of service
Terms of Service
Bokwai offers existing digital calligraphy artworks and individually commissioned works. By placing an order, you agree to these terms and the details shown for the work you purchase. A separate written agreement, if provided for a brand project, governs that project. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under applicable law.
Digital delivery
Existing artworks marked as instant downloads are made available after successful payment. A Personal Artwork commission is created after checkout and is not an instant download. The files and formats included with each purchase are stated on its product page or in the commission editor.
Current Bokwai purchases are delivered digitally. The original paper work, prints, frames, clothing, and other physical objects shown as examples are not included unless a product page expressly says otherwise.
Personal commissions
After checkout, the studio reviews your brief and sends proposed Chinese wording with its English meaning for your confirmation. Artist Xu begins the original brushwork after you approve the wording. The editor shows the standard timing for your chosen commission; the delivery clock pauses while your confirmation is pending. A requested date is confirmed only when the studio replies by email.
Please provide names, dates, and other details accurately. If you send reference material, you must have permission to share it for the purpose of your commission. Wording approval does not include a visual draft or unlimited stylistic revisions. Bokwai will correct an error it makes at no additional cost.
Artwork rights and personal use
Copyright and other intellectual property rights remain with the artist or applicable rights holder. Your purchase grants a non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the delivered artwork for the personal purposes described in the listing. These may include printing, framing, gifting a physical print, making a personal custom item, or discussing the work with a tattoo artist.
You may share the necessary file with a printer, maker, or tattoo artist solely to complete your personal project. The files may not be resold, redistributed, used for a commercial logo or products for sale, supplied for print-on-demand, or used for generative-model training without a separate written agreement.
Tattoos and brand projects
Calligraphy supplied for a tattoo is an artwork reference, not a ready-to-use stencil. Your tattoo artist is responsible for placement, sizing, stencil preparation, and execution.
Commercial and brand uses require a separate written project scope and licence. The permitted uses and final deliverables are defined in that agreement.
Payments, problems, and changes
Payments are currently processed through PayPal. Refunds and cancellations are addressed in our Refund Policy, subject to applicable law. If a file is missing, damaged, or materially different from what was described, contact hello@bokwai.com with your order number so we can investigate and resolve the issue.
We may update these terms by posting a revised version on this page. Changes do not alter the terms agreed for an order already placed.
